Veeder Root - Knowledge Base

Veeder Root tank monitoring protocol overview covering TLS-3XX systems, serial communication, and gateway integration.

What Veeder Root Is

Veeder Root is a serial protocol used by fuel and liquid tank monitoring systems, primarily the TLS-3XX console series (TLS-300, TLS-350, TLS-450). These systems monitor tank levels, leak detection, and inventory management at fuel stations and industrial facilities.

In building automation, Veeder Root data is commonly bridged to BACnet or Modbus via a gateway for integration with building management systems.

TLS Console Models

ModelEraInterface
TLS-300LegacyRS-232 serial
TLS-350CurrentRS-232 serial
TLS-450CurrentRS-232 serial + Ethernet

Communication

Veeder Root uses a proprietary serial protocol over RS-232 at 9600 baud. The gateway acts as a serial client, polling the TLS console for tank data.

[!NOTE] Veeder Root is RS-232 (point-to-point), not RS-485. This is a direct serial connection between the gateway and the TLS console — no multidrop bus.

Common Integration Targets

Modbus TCPTank data to SCADA systems
EtherNet/IPTank data to PLC-based systems

Chipkin Products

The QuickServer gateway (model CAS-2700-02B in legacy references) is the standard product for Veeder Root integration.
