How to Upload Firmware to a QuickServer Gateway

Step-by-step instructions for installing a firmware update on a QuickServer gateway, including firmware format guidance for legacy and current devices.

Overview

Firmware updates for QuickServer gateways are uploaded through the device’s web interface. The correct firmware file format depends on your device model and year of manufacture.

For QuickServer devices built in 2025 or later, see QuickServer 2025 Firmware Format Changes for important information about .pkg vs .simg formats.

Prerequisites

  • Computer on the same network as the gateway
  • Firmware file provided by Chipkin support
  • Default gateway IP: 192.168.2.101

Firmware File Format Notes

  • QuickServer gateways: Current firmware files should keep the filename provided by Chipkin support and normally end in -armv7.pkg, for example Chipkin-fs-ae-chipkin-B0022-1.3.4-armv7.pkg.
  • QuickServer (pre-2025): Uses .simg format by default. A transitional update enables .pkg support. Once transitioned, the firmware file supplied by Chipkin support will typically end in -armv7.pkg. See QuickServer Firmware Format Changes.
  • QuickServer (post-2025): Uses .pkg format exclusively.

Steps

Step 1: Log In to the Web Interface

  1. Open a browser and go to http://192.168.2.101 (or the current gateway IP).
  2. Log in:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: on the label on the back of the gateway

Step 2: Upload the Firmware

Navigate to: Setup → File Transfer

  1. Click Choose File and select the firmware file.
  2. Click Submit to upload.

For current QuickServer firmware, select the supplied *-armv7.pkg file, such as Chipkin-fs-ae-chipkin-B0022-1.3.4-armv7.pkg.

Step 3: Restart and Verify

After the upload completes, restart the gateway. Allow 6 minutes for the firmware to apply and the system to come back online.

Log back in and verify the firmware version in the device’s About or System Info page.

Troubleshooting

  • Upload rejected: Verify the firmware format matches your device type and year. Contact Chipkin support for the correct file.
  • Device does not come back online: Allow up to 2 minutes for the update to complete. If it remains offline, a factory reset may be required.
  • Firmware version unchanged after reboot: The upload may have failed silently — retry with a verified firmware file.
